Started watching more cycling races - so many types!

Cycling is actually much more diverse than it may seem at first. Different disciplines can feel almost like separate sports because the format, terrain, equipment, and tactics vary so much.

Road cycling, track cycling, mountain biking, and BMX all require different skills and use different types of bikes. A road race often focuses on endurance, pacing, and team strategy, while mountain biking depends more on handling, terrain, and technical control. Track cycling is completely different again, with short, intense events on a velodrome. That variety is what makes the sport interesting to follow, even if you only start with one discipline.

What's most striking about the different types of cycling is how each discipline fosters a unique set of skills and demands on the athletes. A road cyclist needs endurance and strategic thinking, while a BMX rider requires incredible agility and precision. This diversity not only makes the sport engaging for a wider audience but also highlights the athletic versatility possible on two wheels.
